Riverside Road Update
The traditional close season was just one day old when the Fisheries Committee commenced major refurbishment work on the swims and bank side at our premier still water.
| Surveys during the Winter had identified serious under cutting and erosion of banks with a risk of collapse in many of the most popular pegs. Using heavy machinery and contracted labour, plus the efforts of bailiffs and volunteers, most of the car park side bank plus the popular points have now been stripped and rebuilt. | ![]() |

In common with the pegs at the narrow outfall end, concrete blocks have been formed (you can see the molding frames in the pictures) to create a safe and permanent fishing position without destroying the overall style of the fishery.
Many hundreds of sandbags have also been installed below the surface to restore the undercut banks taking great care not to disturb emerging plant life.
|
| Other major changes include the
completion of the aeration pump house and the joining of the first island
to the main bank. This latter work was done to prevent damage to carp as
many were hooked and lost under the footbridge.
As work continues volunteers are welcome for every weekend during April. |
