Having examined the government’s new Health Protection (Coronavirus restrictions)(England) (no4) Regulations. The Angling Trust have confirmed that fishing can continue but there are restrictions;
You can only leave home to fish with members of your own household, your support bubble or one other individual. The ‘Rule of Six’ is now a ‘Rule of two’. The tightening of the rules on ‘gatherings’ means that match fishing or any other organised fishing event is prohibited during lockdown . However, competitive fishing will be allowed once there is a return to the three tier system of restrictions.
Angling is deemed a permissible form of ‘outdoor recreation’ and a lawful reason to leave home. It can take place, without time limits, within the provision allowing people to visit outdoor spaces for the purpose of open air recreation. The guidance on this section states that it is permissible to travel to spend time outdoors but long journeys should be avoided.
Normal guidance still applies and you should not leave home if you are unwell or have any Coronavirus symptoms and you certainly may not leave home if you are self-isolating or quarantining.
Fishery management will continue with fishery managers and bailiffs continuing to work as normal. Work parties may be arranged as they fall into the category of ‘voluntary work’ and this is permitted as long as appropriate provisions are put in place and social distancing is maintained.
Tackle shops have not been classified as ‘essential retailers’ but they will be permitted to open for ‘click & Collect’ sales. Terry at Verulam Angling has confirmed that he will be open from 10.00am until 2.00pm daily for the collection of orders placed. Bait will be available however any large bait orders need to be placed in advance before Wednesday lunchtime for the weekend following.
The Riverside Road Shop will not open during the lockdown unless by prior arrangement. If you would like to make a significant purchase of bait or any items of clothing contact the Secretary and he will make arrangement to meet you on site.
Please read and understand the guidance given. A fuller explanation of all the implications is available from the Angling Trust website. Please respect your fellow angler by behaving responsibly during this period of restriction. The Club encourages you to get out and utilise the venues but please assess your own risk before deciding to leave home. Maintain social distance but do not allow the benefits of fresh autumn air to be denied you. Get out , enjoy yourself but take care of you and your fellow Club members.

Verulam and Spotted Fin Partnership!
The Club are very pleased to announce a partnership with Spotted Fin, a local bait Company based in Abbots Langley. The partnership will initially involve them sponsoring a number of events including the Club Championship and Evening League. They will also support the Club coaching set up. In addition all Verulam members will be able to get a 10% discount off of all purchases made through the Spotted Fin website.
In return they will use our fisheries, mainly Riverside Road but also others, to develop baits and film promotional videos. Some coaching days are being considered with their brand ambassadors who include Simon Wilsmore and Jamie Hughes. We are also looking at ways to further develop their brand of carp and specialist bait.
They will be present at this year’s Open day at Riverside Road on Saturday July 13th.
Come down and say hello!
