Barbel King
Any member who has attended one of the
Stick
Float Clinics at Marford Farm will know that Specialist Committee member
Keith Speer likes nothing more than to catch big barbel on the stick float and
centre pin.
Back in January this year Keith bagged a wonderful
17lb 15oz
barbel from 'a VAC river venue' in the snow and on the stick. Most of us
have never seen a barbel approaching that size so it's even more amazing an
achievement that Keith has landed yet another 17lb barbel, a different fish and
from a different VAC venue. In fact, a different river completely.
Understandably Keith is reluctant to name the precise location.
This wonderful fish, weighing in at 17.10, wasn't a single
lucky fish. That same day he banked other fish of 12.01 and 9.07 and dropped a
couple more doubles that slipped the hook. Nine days earlier Keith had landed a
15.05 fish (see right) from the same stretch so he knew he was in the right
spot.
The magic stick float and 'pin accounted for all these great fish, a tactic that
Keith which has accounted for many big fish for Keith from our Lea venues at
Marford Farm and Fishers Green, And, to cap a great year, the Angling Times have
included Keith as a nominee in their 'Catch of the year' competition. If you

HALF-SEASON MEMBERSHIPS NOW AVAILABLE
Valid from 1st November, a half-season membership can now be purchased.
This provides access to all VAC waters and is valid until 15th June 2012. You
can sign up on-line (see our Subscriptions page) or you can now join
'over the counter' at the Verulam Angling Centre (see ad - right) and pay cash,
cheque or credit card.
| BELLOWS MILL UPDATE |

The VAC's freehold fishery at
Bellows Mill near Eaton Bray continues to see steady
improvement and development.
Members of the VAC's trout section are enjoying great sport in Ford Lake
(more details on the Trout pages). And
the coarse fishing on Mill Lake is continuing to throw up great fish with big
perch, tench, roach etc. plus grass carp to 28lb!!

So here's Keith with the Fireworks Day 15lb'er from a VAC river venue.
Fred Edwards is a stalwart of the VAC and topped the recent trout section
day-out at Elinor with this 7lb rainbow.
George Fell is a regular competitor, along with his dad, on VAC championship
matches and scored a rewarding 3rd place recently at Frogmore with two carp.
